The Federation's objective is to assist our local Square Dance Clubs in remaining alive and active year around. We would like to have the Mainstream, Plus and Advanced levels available for everyones's enjoyment and to organize classes that will maintain our club memberships healthy and active.
We want to provide our Winter Visitors with a single website that can give them the information needed to find a dance location and level that they are looking for, whether an Affiliated Club, regional associatioin, unaffiliated club or Caller/Cuer event, you are all invited to participate.
Our Calendar and Links page is available for inclusion by all Clubs, Callers, Cuers, & Instructors in Arizona, Federation Members or not, please join us.
EXCITING NEWS- The Mesa Checkmates had finished its Mainstream Dancers Class and is sponsoring their newly formed club - Mesa Mainstreamers
Watch for upcoming news on this and the Checkmates website. This is great news for the Mesa, Arizona area, as the Desert Mainstreamers has folded. Congratulations to the Checkmates for stepping up and keeping Mainstream alive in Mesa, Arizona.
Founded by Don & Diane van Straaten in Mesa Arizona, square dancers since the early 1970's, members and officers of multiple clubs, associations and festivals over the years in California and Arizona, we believe that a federation or association of dancers must include callers and cuers, organized clubs, caller run clubs and any gathering of dancers that believe Square Dancing is the best combination of physical exercise, mental stimulation and a social gathering of friends you are about to meet.
We feel that a properly structured Federation should not be a financial burden to its dancers, should help guide clubs to membership success, and encourage multiple square dance levels in any local area.
As an Arizona Non-Profit Corporation and an Affiliated Member of United Square Dancers of America, we can offer our members liability and medical insurance at reduced rates, and provide web services and advertising.
We must actively build square dancing, not just comment on how few dancers there are compared to 40 years ago. Our foundations are imbedded in the Desert Southwest, as Square Dancing is the State Dance of Arizona since 1990 by Proclamation of then Governor Rose Mofford. Cheers for Arizona!!!
Friends you haven't met yet when you travel...
an important and fundamental part of square dancing.
